Happy Cog Hosting

“Why do you want to offer hosting? Hosting is hard!” We’ve heard quite a bit of that lately from our friends. Hosting is hard, no doubt. And that’s exactly why we want to offer it.

Happy Cog has relied on external web hosts for well over a decade. We have tried a lot of them, both for our own needs and for those of our clients. Media Temple, a company we have relied on for years, is an example of a company that knows its audience and serves their needs extremely well. They’ve also been (and continue to be) a valued business partner, sponsoring many memorable social events at An Event Apart conferences, as well as historically hosting A List Apart, An Event Apart, happycog.com, and zeldman.com. We love Media Temple and are grateful for the years of great service they’ve provided.

So why exactly are we offering hosting? Why get into a business that requires tremendous patience, extraordinary responsiveness, and technological wizardry? Well, our clients asked us to. And after considering their requests carefully, we came to believe that there was an opportunity to offer something different. Something that serves the needs of a highly specific sliver of the hosting marketplace, and does it in an exemplary way.

So today, we’re thrilled to announce Happy Cog Hosting. Happy Cog Hosting is industrial-strength, LAMP stack hosting for people who don’t want to deal with hosting. It’s VIP service for folks who publish and maintain websites with impressive traffic and high bandwidth demands. We don’t offer feature-rich control panels for self-maintenance, because we do the maintaining for you. Think of it as your hosting concierge service. Want something installed? Call us. Want something optimized? Email us. Want something configured? Text us. However you want to connect, we will accommodate you.

Happy Cog Hosting was designed and built from scratch and is serviced, maintained, and monitored by some of the best people in the business. It’s run by professionals, for professionals. It’s not for everyone, and won’t try to be. It’s not cheap, but it’s worth the price.

We’ll be in public beta through the month of February fine-tuning things. The only way to get on board is to receive an invitation through a friend or colleague, so keep your eyes on Twitter and your email. We also have a nifty incentive program beginning this month that you may be interested in. When you get your invitation code, check the website for all the details.

We hope you like what we have planned.

Industrial-strength hosting from Happy Cog for $799 / month. Strong move, likely formalizing a long-standing hosting policy for existing clients while simultaneously selling their by-products. More →

I had issues with @mediatemple. Their mySQL servers are average. Their Twitter support is great though.
